Understanding and Managing Dependence: Is Addiction a Normal Human Behaviour?
SPSW is delighted to present this new workshop with Dr Bill Saunders, a Clinical Psychologist in almost retirement. In previous lives he has been an academic specialising in addiction studies, a clinician running alcohol and other drug services plus a head of psychotherapy and director of a private psychiatric facility that managed ‘co-occurring’ drug and mental health problems. As anyone who has ever attended one of Bill’s workshops, know they are always informative and fun.
Much fuss is made about addiction, viz: alcohol addiction, shopping addiction, sexual addiction, cocaine addiction, Facebook addiction, methamphetamine addiction, internet addiction and even Game of Thrones addiction. In this workshop an alternative paradigm that dependence is a normal part of human behaviour will be proposed.
The aim of this workshop is for participants to feel enabled to assist anyone attempting to give up their ‘addictive’ behaviours
This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to:
- Explore the nature of addiction through an amalgam of clinical examples, personal experience, some music and research;
- Observe and practice clinical strategies; and
- Examine your own reliance on things and the challenging process of ‘giving up’ those things upon which we rely
